"...thoroughly entertaining...  Peter Schilling, Minneapolis Star Tribune

Editor's Note
Two couples find their lives turned upside down by their unfulfilled longings in this ensemble comedy from director Woody Allen. Alfie (Anthony Hopkins) and Helena (Gemma Jones) have been married for years. They have a grown-up daughter named Sally (Naomi Watts), who is married to a successful novelist named Roy (Josh Brolin), but finds the future of her marriage in jeopardy after falling for Greg (Antonio Banderas), the dapper owner of a prominent art gallery. Meanwhile, as Roy develops a fixation on Dia (Freida Pinto), an exotic beauty he encounters on the street, Alfie ditches Helena for Charmaine (Lucy Punch), an impressionable young call girl. Now it seems that the harder everyone tries runs away from their problems, the faster their lives seem to fall apart.

Upon hearing that a movie is called You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger, and that it is another in a long line of moving pictures from Woody Allen, you immediately get the feeling that Mr. Allen will not be portraying the unfamiliar person of the film’s title. Indeed he doesn’t. As a matter of fact, Woody Allen may finally be grasping the fact that his onscreen appearances aren’t too-terribly fashionable with the full review

"[W]here Allen takes his characters -- Roy and Helena specifically -- might be the film's boldest move....It's a work with an intriguingly downbeat irony..." 04/01/2011

Detroit News 8 of 10 ensemble cast of brilliant actors, a timeless story that could be set virtually anywhere and crisp writing and direction that neither lollygags or with most recent Woody films, there is no Woody character here, in other words a central neurotic male role that he would have played when younger. And as with most recent films, it's a bit hard to tell where the comedy ends and the drama begins; they're swirled together's certainly in Allen's upper echelon of work over the past decade. And that's quite an echelon. If you like Woody, this is a must-see. - Tom Long
