A satisfactory, functional device
This is the second wireless adapter I've bought for my laptop. The first was a cardbus adapter. I'd say I owned it for about 6 months before it broke down. Just something about the construction of those cards and the way they stick out of my laptop seems to make them prone to break. Now I've only owned the Zonet USB adapter for a week and a half, but so far I'm very satisfied with its performance. It's tiny, so it's pretty easy to carry around; at the same time the compact construction seems very sturdy, so I don't worry about it snapping in half like I did with the cardbus adapter. It can get a little hot while it's operating, though, and I don't like the fact that it doesn't come with a "cap" to cover the USB plug when the adapter is not in use. They advertise it as "pen drive"-sized; it would be much cooler if it had a cap and a place to attach a keychain, like my other pen drives. Finally, I was a bit disappointed by the fact that I couldn't just "plug and play": even running Windows XP, I was apparently required to install the included software to operate the adapter normally. However, given the rebate that was available when I purchased this adapter, I'd say it is (or at least was) one of the better buys available on the Buy.com website.
