Customer Reviews of ZyXEL NSA310 1-bay Network Attached Storage and Media Server
Good NAS for the price.2/11/2014
Got this to get my growing media collection online. Works great, but I had a couple of problems. My wireless router only has 100 mb/s transfer rate. So moving 1 to 10 gig files to the NAS was too slow. I had to connect it directly to my mac mini via the gigabit ethernet port and running PLEX on the mac. Works great and transfers at a gig+ per minute. The other problem was fan noise. I fixed that by getting and installing a Noctua 40x10mm A-Series liquid bearing fan. It's an awesome setup and easy to use.
So far, it does exactly what it claims1/16/2014
Aside from some initial trouble (I think I didn't seat the drive in the enclosure firmly enough) it's been working great for my needs. Transfer speed on my somewhat dated wireless network is slow, but fast enough to stream video to a connected computer. The big win for me is the ability to keep our digital photos in a place where all family members can contribute. Previously they were duplicated on our personal computers. Finally, the interface isn't a 5 out of 5, but the documentation is extensive and well-written. Imagine that!
Mostly does what I want it to do, but...1/15/2014
My primary use for this product is to publish photos and videos for my family and friends to view or download. The one very large issue that I have with this product is that they cannot do this with a mobile device. A remote user (not on the same local area network as the NAS) without administrator access can connect to the NAS using a computer. However, if that user tries to connect remotely from a mobile device (iPhone, iPad, Android device, etc.) they are not able to log in. Only those with administrator access can connect remotely using a mobile device. This was confirmed by ZyXEL tech support and is a known issue. Hopefully, it will be addressed in a firmware update because more and more users are relying on mobile devices for connectivity.
Good little NAS1/14/2014
Used this Nas server with my several computers to push videos recorded with a Silicondust prime tuner. Works great. Added an external drive and am running Raid1 with no problem. The manual could be clearer (on pdf unfortunately) but if you take the time to understand how this thing works it's great and compact. Would buy again.
Bad piece. Failed to get IP.1/7/2014
The item fails to get an IP from home router. The "sys" light on front panel stays flashing green, not solid green. Already went through troubleshooting steps with Zyxel, including a firmware flush, returning... and very disappointed.
Product as per scribed8/11/2013

A nice media server10/11/2012
Small, takes up very little space. Can connect multiple external drives via USB for additional storage on your network. Easy setup.
Love this drive!!! 5 STARS!!!!!!! Awesome hardrive for any computer users needs. It is sleek and slim and takes up no space. Hooks right up to computer and starts working right away. Couldn't have been any easier. Includes all the software right on the hard drive. Just plug and play.
Decent but slow5/31/2012
This unit’s a decent home media server for the money, if you get it under seventy bucks. It doesn’t have a firewall or support DHCP servicing like the Synology NAS but loaded with the 4.40 firmware it does a good job of pushing vid, music, etc. to DLNA enabled devices. It’s a bit slow with read/write of smaller files but does fine with larger ones. The printer support is limited, though I got my printer to work, even though it wasn’t listed as being supported specifically. Another small peeve is that it doesn’t have native software for iPhone or Android however you can get third party that will read the content or a DLNA enabled phone. My major beef is that my unit came without a functional fan (it wouldn’t spin) which caused it to frequently overheat especially with large files transfers over USB, but that’s being rectified by the company. Overall, not a bad choice if money is tight. Unlike the previous reviewer, my unit came brand new. It could also be he forgot to remove the plastic film that covers the front (which does at first make it look scratched)
Refurbished or New?5/19/2012
Just Opened the Box: Is that a new or refurbished... i could see a lot of scratches in the front panel and its clear its not a new product...
