Upgrade Wireless Speed and Coverage for Home Networks
Latest Wireless N Technology Enhances Performance and Coverage
The ZyXEL WAP3205 brings you faster wireless connections than you ever dreamed possible. With blazing speeds of up to 300Mbps, the WAP3205 has the power to handle multiple wireless connections, high-speed downloading, and smooth, lag-free high definition video streaming at speeds up to 6 times faster than existing 802.11g networks. With the ability to integrate seamlessly with your existing b/g wireless network, the WAP3205 is the perfect way to bring your connection up to speed while expanding network coverage throughout your home.
Expand Your Wireless Network
Not all internet-ready devices are natively wirelessly capable. With the WAP3205’s Client Mode, you can connect the WAP3205 to your set top box, game console, or other Ethernet-ready device and quickly form a link to your existing network, no additional wiring required.
To make setup as simple as possible, the WAP3205 uses the eaZy123 setupwizard. With a single click, users can easily change the WAP’s mode ofoperation without any complicated setup procedures.
Backward-Compatible with Most Popular APs
Now you can extend wireless coverage throughout your entire home. With Universal Repeater mode, the WAP3205 can seamlessly connect to most popular Wireless Access Points to expand your network without the need to run cables.
One-touch WPS button for easy wireless security setup
Establishing a secure wireless network with the WAP3205 couldn’t be easier. Simply push the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) button and the corresponding button on the device you wish to connect. It takes only a few seconds to set up a secure wireless network without any complicated configuration. Instead of using a pass phrase, users can authenticate and add a new device to the network by pressing a button or entering an automatically generated PIN code. With the button option, you can setup the wireless configuration and encryption in seconds with just a simple click.
In order to reduce unnecessary wireless energy consumption for a more eco-friendly network environment, the wireless scheduler and output power management of the WAP3205 enable you to easily control the wireless network environment. The desired operating time can be set up in a few steps via the Web-based user interface, allowing the WAP3205 to turn itself on or off according to your wireless usage pattern.
Wireless output management
With Wireless Output Management, you’re able to easily adjust the power output for less interference in neighborhoods with high access point density — its six-level signal strength control capability instantly makes you a good wireless neighbor.
* The maximum wireless data transfer rate is derived from IEEE Standard 802.11 specifications. Actual data transfer rate will vary from network environment including: distance, network traffic, building site materials/construction, interference from other wireless devices, and other adverse conditions.
Customer Reviews of ZyXEL WAP3205 300 Mbps Wireless N Access Point, Ethernet Client, Universal Repeater, and Range Extender
Piece of JUNK8/24/2013
Do NOT buy this... It is way too hard to work with and it doesn't work well anyways.... Stay AWAY from it...
Unit was so confusing to set up I had to have a tech do it for me. It has lost its programming numerous times with power outages. my samsung tablet and phones dont work with it most of the time. Very disapointed after looking at consumer reports that this should be one of the best in its price range. Wish I had gone with a more proven brand name product.
Purchased this router/repeater based on numerous reviews including the negative reviews. Very pleased with its performance. Following the user manual, had it set up in 15 minutes. I bought the unit for use as a universal repeater. The unit is located one floor up and at the other end of the house from the router and is delivering 5 bar strength. Have had this unit 3 weeks now and would highly recommend it.
Couldn't make it work11/30/2012
Tried to use it as a wireless repeater as advertised but it walked all over the signal from the main wireless router. Sits on a shelf.
ZyXel Wireless Access Router11/9/2012
Difficult to set up, and doesn't have an "on/off" switch.
I've purchased other items from buy.com I will do so again. I haven't worked out all the bugs in the unit but I let it seems to be working correctly
Works very well10/11/2012
Even though I was scared when I was making the purchase, because I didn't know if this was truly what I needed but the fact that the item got in on the day I needed it did a lot. It has worked fine so far and I'm happy with this purchase.
A bit tricky to set up9/11/2012
Had to change my computer's IP address to make it compatible with the router. The User Guide had the info, but it's almost 200 pages long. Definitely was not plug and play for me. But, once it was set up, it worked like a champ. Repeats my main router's signal and took a 1 bar signal to 4 or 5 bars. Happy with the results. Just wish the documentation were a bit more simplified.
I bought this in November, 2011. I use this in repeater mode to extend my wireless signal. Easy to set up. Works great as long as it is up and running. But seems to lose connection to main router once every month. I must set up everything all over again. Otherwise devices in its proximity can't go on the internet.
My house has a terrible issue with getting my wireless signal out, but this item really does better than I hoped. I couldn't seem to figure out why the repeater function acts up but it does great in Access point mode. Much better than my ISP's wifi modem/router. The price is reasonable and it's a sturdy item.
This product has a very weak signal. Another product by Buffalo is cheaper and is a router and/or a access. I returned it.
An Awesome Product!5/31/2012
I hardly ever use the word "awesome" but it truly describes this device. In less than five minutes I had it set up to be a universal access point to my existing Apple Extreme wireless network. It performs as fast or faster than being directly connected to the Apple Extreme. I don't know how that could be but it sure seems so. I'm thinking about buying another one. Great buy and great product.
The ZyXEL is 1/2 the price of the comparable Cisco device but it has a much more feature rich set of wireless capabilities. It supports WPS, allowing for easy setup. It supports WDS, allowing you to configure a network that allows you to carry your laptop from room to room in a large house without sacrificing much speed if setup correctly. It can access as a repeater if needed.
The new manual is extremely easy to follow, and in no more than 10 minutes, I had the device connected to my Belkin wireless router bridging my connection to my LG Blu-Ray player, and watching instant streaming movies from Netflix.
All in all, the ZyXEL was remarkably inexpensive and does exactly what I needed it to do - greatly extend the range of my wireless signal for guests who are in an upstairs room at the other end of the house.
This is a great router for the price. Three modes (access point, router, universal repeater) for one low cost makes it worthwhile.
I have 3 of these wireless routers in a school to hand out enough locations for 100 people to connect and students to work on daily basis. They send out a great signal and allow for coverage for the entire school in just 3 routers where we needed 5 before. They are great!
Worked much better than I thought, boosted my wireless signal so all items work, IPad and IPods did not connect prior to getting this, signal too weak.
It Did Not Work.4/5/2012
Tried to set it up as a repeater. Neither I nor a local computer pro could get to the internal web page via the ethernet cable. We checked all ip addresses on our system and spent a lot of time for nothing. I may reorder one but will probably spend a little more and hopefully not get another defective item.
The laptop, 2 Roku receivers and a Kindle were attached and had nice strong signals for the first time. That is until they kept disconnecting. I realized that they were being disconnected every hour. While looking around in the settings, I found "Group Key Update Timer" and it was set to 3600 seconds. I found no documentation on it, but set it to 0 and nothing ever gets disconnected anymore. Once the frustration of getting this unit set up is done
Ease to use Wireless Access Point3/13/2012
I use this to add multiple Ethernet only clients to my wireless network.
Excellent for gamers7/16/2011
Very fast an reliable, covers a two story house with a strong signal.
This device is advertised at up to 300mbits transfer rate. The ethernet connection is 100mbit Max. (10/100) Maximum wireless connection I have seen is 72 Mbits. Wrongful advertising or wishful thinking or me doing something wrong? Sending it back Was easy to configure.
Works great if you can set it up4/19/2011
Everything anyone has said about the horrible set-up instructions is true. After getting IP addresses changed and reading instructions which seem to be vague, I had it up and running as a universal repeater. Once the frustration of getting this unit set up is done, it is a really nice item that now keeps a strong signal available throughout the house. I recommend it.
Google the Manual3/10/2011
Being an IT manager for a school district, I figured I could configure it for repeater mode with the 4 page manual. After an hour or 2, I google and found the real manual. Followed the step by step instructions and it worked. Would never have been able to set it up with out the PDF manual. Now it working flawlessly. I use a Hawkins directional antenna for the "box" to pick up the signal and it repeats flawlessly. Just need to follow the step by step instruction manual. Saved from having not to by a bridge and AP. The 2 Hawkins AP/Bridges did not work after 2 RMAs. However the high gain antenna is great.
ZyXEL WAP3205- A steal for what it does3/10/2011
I purchased this product to hook up my Sony Blue Ray DVD and my Dish Network DVR to the web. It was half the cost of purchasing a SONY wifi card, and not adding the cost of purchasing another wifi card for the DVR. In all I'm happy with it and it works! I had to follow detailed instructions provided by someone's review from AMAZON.com to get it to work but it is working. I purchased it from Buy.com and got free shipping which ended up being delivered overnight(glad I didn't have to pay extra).
I'm using this device in universal repeater mode to capture a wireless signal and rebroadcast it to extend my network. It works perfectly! It was a little tricky to get everything synced up but now it passes IP addresses from the DHCP server wirelessly to the rest of my network. This device can be configured various ways, but in this one I can say that it is rock solid. It is exactly what I needed. The interface is easy to use in both simple and expert mode. Highly recommended.
Works great, but not for the computer challenged.12/5/2010
I use this as an Ethernet Bridge. Like others have said; the printed documentation was poor. But I did a search on the internet and found a lot of step-by-step instructions. I had to connect my computer and router to the unit, change my computer’s ‘web address’ log onto the website and change some of the settings. It sounded complicated, but it very easy. Took about 10 minutes to set up. I can now use it anywhere in the house to hook up a networked devise. It works great and the price was right. Saved $80 over the Cisco bridge and I learned something. I would recommend this, and would purchase again if I needed another bridge.
Easy Setup and Good Performance12/2/2010
I'm using this as a simple access point and it's performing great. It was about a 2 minute setup and hasen't gone down at all. I have a cheap Trendnet router that needs rebooting every other day and an expensive Liksys (Cisco) that goes down about once a week! I wouldn't hesitae to buy another ZyXel product in the future.
Excellent Wireless N Bridge.10/27/2010
I have been using mine as a bridge to connect several devices in my media center to my wireless N router. I used it to replace an older Belkin G Bridge that I have had for 5 years in order to increase the wireless speed for Netflix. There was only one trick to installing it. The instructions specify an IP address range your PC must have when you directly (with a wire) connect to it in order to set it up. If your PC is not setting an IP address in the range, you will have to manually configure the PC IP address - in WIN goto control pannel, network connections, local area connection, Internet protocol, properties. Click button for "use following IP address" and put an address in range in. Oh Make sure your not connected to a network when you do this & set the setting back to old settings after you finish. From there, just open a browser and type in the address specifierd in instructions - I think 220.127.116.11? And the device provides a web page interface.
Hard to figure out...10/26/2010
I consider myself a pretty technical person but I've been unable to get this thing to work. I haven't given up yet but I would warn people who aren't technically savy to stay away. Documentation and quick start guide aren't very good.
Find a $30 WAP10/24/2010
With instructions to "find a $30 WAP," I saw this model in Buy.com's email blast. My only hesitation was based on reviews that setup was a problem, but it ended up being extremely fast and easy (which actually made me think I must have done something wrong!). Shipping was fast, too.
This was one of the lowest prices I've seen for an N-Access Point. I'm not using it as a router, only as an access point, which is what I needed. It hooked up no problem and the whole network was up in a few minutes.
Still couldn't set it up yet10/20/2010
I got two router two weeks ago because of the good review, still no luck setting up right yet. Instruction is no help and customer service doesn't work during weekends. Will try email.
Great Product When It is Working9/9/2010
This is a great access point for a wireless-n network. It is very fast and very cheap. The only down side to it is you have to have a better than average knowledge about networking computers and routers. Documentation from Zyxel needs to be better especially for first time buyers of this access point. Overall, the product is very stable once set up. Not had a problem with it since I got it properly installed.
Great for devices with no wireless capability.5/17/2010
I used this for my Dish Network DVR and Blu-Ray player that have no wireless capability. Setup was easy and never has failed once since I owned it.
Great value to extend your network2/3/2010
ZyXEL has fantastic customer service (at least via email). With their extra documentation offered before even receiving the product, I got this set up to add wi-fi support to an ethernet device in no time. Very happy.
Perfect for heavy wireless traffic12/21/2009
I purchased this unit to connect my Sony Bravia TV back to my network. setup was little tricky, but Zyxel's support were of a great help. Very solid running unit, never froze on me especially when watching HD movies or streaming music. Taking in consideration the heavy media traffic associated with these HD movies.
Great in AP Client mode12/17/2009
I bought this AP to set it up as a WLAN Client to connect my Samsung LED HDTV (UN46B7000) with my existing wireless router (ASUS WL-520GU running tomato). I had to use the advanced setup mode to set the 128-bit WEP, due to older devices on my network that don't support WPA/WPA2. WEP is not available in the EZ setup mode. However, the EZ setup appears straight forward and probably would work for the majority. Once I plugged the TV to one of the two Ethernet ports, the TV found the right settings, acquired IP address automatically and connected to the network. The connection is strong and stable, played DVD quality, 480p, video flawlessly (have not tried HD stream yet). This is probably the best inexpensive solution for connecting the TV to an existing wireless network. This is my first ZyXEL device and I like it very much.
This is the second time I have bought something from Buy.com that the UPC on the item I received did not match the UPC required to get the rebate. Buy.com's solution was for me to spend an additional $10.00 to return the item. I will think twice before ordering anything form Buy.com. However I am very satisfied with the ZyXEL Access Point.
Works well once configured right10/15/2009
I bought this device to use so I could use the Ethernet port on my Network TV to stream content from the supported apps and my PC. Once setup correctly, it has worked perfectly. Installing the new firmware was a snap. The rest of the setup was pretty smoothly, but then I hit a snag. I couldn't get it to attach to my wireless network even though it appeared to be setup correctly. After a couple hours and trying various options I caved in and called the technical support. They were terrific and were able to get it up and running. I'm still not 100% sure what the fix was, but in the end they were very helpful and willing to assist in the future. They take great pride in their products and I'd recommend them.
