When it comes to food delivery apps, there are more than enough to choose from, especially if you’re in a big city like San Francisco. With Grubhub, Uber Eats, Postmates and DoorDash all coming in hot with delivery from popular restaurants and new restaurants alike. Now if you’re wondering what food delivery apps take cash, we don’t have any good answers for you there, but if you’re wondering which one offers the best prices, most selection and the like, keep reading.

What is the Cheapest Food Delivery App?

The App

When you first open up each of the below apps, you’ll be prompted to share your location or enter your delivery address.

Grubhub

If you’re opting for Delivery, you’ll see the closest restaurants to you, or you can sort via Pickup options. You can filter by cuisines, or refine your search based on delivery date and time, star ratings, price, Grubhub+ and new restaurants.

Deals: Redeem Perks such as free delivery, BOGO offers, dollars off and more, and have the option to earn dollars off at restaurants as a loyal member.
Referral: Yes.

Uber Eats

You’ll see a carousel of offers, special promos and the like. Before you see the nearest restaurant options to you, you’ll see categories like Pickup, Essentials, Deals, Alcohol, Top Eats and then cuisines. Uber Eats’ feed may show you restaurants with discounted delivery fees, restaurants with the fastest delivery times, popular restaurants and more.

Deals: Restaurant Rewards lets you earn dollar rewards when you order from participating restaurants a specific number of times. Special Offers are, for example, spend a minimum amount to get a percentage off or free delivery, BOGO free offers and the like.
Referral: Yes. Share your code and get 25% off up to $7 when your friend uses Uber Eats for the first time to get 25% off two orders up to $7.

Postmates

Postmates features Daily Deals and other notable offers first. It also categorizes by Recommended For You, Support Local Restaurants, Top Categories (i.e. Essentials, Convenience, etc.), Good for Groups and more. Check out the Party tab to see which restaurants are offering free delivery, but don’t wait – join the Party before time runs out.

Deals: Daily Deals may include dollars off or free delivery on a minimum order, free delivery with no minimum and the like.
Referral: Yes. When a friend signs up via your link and places their first order, you’ll get $25 in Postmates credit, valid for seven days.

DoorDash

Sort by categories like Convenience, Fast Food, Desserts, etc. or filter by Pickup, Over 4.5 stars, Under 30 min, Group Order and the like. Scroll down the feed to find Your Favorite, Special Offers and even Convenience & Grocery essentials delivered to you.

Deals: Special Offers may mean $0 delivery fee, percentages off your order and the like.
Referral: Yes. When someone signs up with your link and places an order over $15, you’ll get $10 in DoorDash credit. Your friend will also get $5 off each of their first three orders.

Prices

I live in the south bay of the Bay Area, so I’m going to be checking all four food delivery apps at Bill’s Café nearby to compare menus and prices. I am excluding tip from the costs to keep it neutral.
