The Best Valentine’s Day Movies You Can Stream

Many of us will be staying home this Valentine’s Day, but you can still have an incredible holiday without leaving your living room. I’ve already covered the best Valentine’s Day restaurant deals to take advantage of, and now I have a few movie recommendations that can be streamed from popular services. So order a meal from your favorite spot, pick it up curbside and pick a movie or two from this list. I’ve broken out my picks by streaming service so you can find them quickly.

Plus One

Plus One is the story of two friends who agree to be each other’s plus-one at every wedding they are invited to. Along the way, they discover there may be a little more to their friendship than they thought. Ben Stiller is the executive producer, and the film received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike.

Good Luck Chuck

Good Luck Chuck falls into the awesomely bad category. It has 5% on Rotten Tomatoes, so you get the picture. It stars Dane Cook and Jessica Alba, and it’s a reversal of the “always a bridesmaid, never a bride” narrative. It’s pure, stupid fun.

50 First Dates

A lot of people give Adam Sandler grief, but they’ve likely never seen Uncut Gems. The guy’s got range, despite the type of movies he’s known for. 50 First Dates sits somewhere in the middle of the Sandler spectrum, and it’s a fun, quick, feel-good movie with the usual recurring cast of friends and cameos from Sandler’s world.

Up

Up could quite literally be the greatest love story of all time. It deals with love, loss, adventure and redemption, and it’s one of my all-time favorite Pixar films. Carl’s dedication to Ellie’s lifelong dream is a tearjerker, but there’s plenty of comedic relief along the way thanks to Russell, Dug and Kevin.

Robin Hood

Add a little nostalgia to your Valentine’s Day plans and watch Robin Hood. The animated classic from Disney holds up very well considering it’s nearly 50 years old. There’s a love story, a dozen timeless characters and the whole steal-from-the-rich-and-give-to-the-poor dynamic. What’s not to love?

The Switch

Sit down, because this is a wild summary. The Switch stars Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston as best friends Wally and Kassie, who live in New York City. When Kassie decides to become a single mom and have a child through artificial insemination, Wally, who is desperately in love with Kassie, switches her sperm donor’s sample with his own. Kassie leaves the city and returns seven years later with her son and a ton of questions. It’s an interesting twist on a romantic comedy.

Five Feet Apart

Five Feet Apart tells the story of two cystic fibrosis patients, Stella and Will, who meet during Stella’s time in a hospital. They have to remain apart due to their conditions, but Stella shows her ultimate love for Will by encouraging him to live life on his terms.

The Big Sick

The Big Sick is an entirely new twist on a romantic comedy, written by Emily V. Gordon and Kumail Nanjiani and loosely based on their real-life relationship. It follows an interethnic couple—also named Kumail and Emily—as they navigate a variety of cultural differences. Kumail never tells his parents about Emily because they’re pressuring him into an arranged marriage, but Emily eventually finds out and they break up. When the fictional Emily becomes critically ill, Kumail finds himself right back in her world and face to face with her parents, who know all about the breakup. Over time, they learn to get along and bond over caring for Emily.

Trainwreck

Trainwreck stars Amy Schumer and Bill Hader in a crude and hilarious romantic comedy directed by Judd Apatow. Amy (played by Schumer) grew up believing monogamy is unrealistic and isn’t in the cards for her. She lives life to the fullest as a single magazine writer in the city. When she ends up on a new assignment and finds herself falling in love with Bill Hader’s character, she starts to question everything she thought about monogamy.
