Fascinating entertainment with lavish period costumes and backgrounds. The series begins with Bertie's birth and provides seventy years of history, including the British view of our Civil War as well as interesting insights into the interactions of various heads of state of European principalities and nations, all intertwined because of the marriages of children and grandchildren of Queen Victoria. All the while the Prince of Wales waits in the wings, sometimes out of sight and deliberately kept out of the action. The series does not pander to Edward's myriad extra-marital relationships, but it does stress his family life with Princess Alix and his boisterous children; he is portrayed as a sensitive, often lonely and frustrated man who has been trained from early childhood for a role his mother refuses to let him play. I've enjoyed it tremendously!
