Product Overview

Dr. Merry takes the viewer not just to well-known tourist attractions in France, but also back in time when Cro-Magnon men hunted mammoth in the Dordogne region and painted magical scenes of animals on the cave walls of Lascaux. He follows the route of the invading Romans, through their triumphant arches, across aqueducts and into the amphitheaters, which are now used as bull rings. In Roquefort we see the production of the famous cheese and in Perigord the fat geese whose livers make the delicious pate foie gras. The marshes of the Camarque are home to thousands of flamingos and herds of white horses. Free roaming black bulls are bred for the bloodless bull fight. The largest gypsy gathering in the world happens annually at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Emotionally charged, even after more than 80 years, are the battle sites of WWI in the Somme Valley and Verdun. Equally impressive and citness to the futility of war are the landing sites of D-Day of WWII. The last part of the film is devoted to Paris. No film about France would be complete without showing the familiar landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, Sacre Coeur and Notre Dame. We admire the splendor of the Alexander III Bridge and see Paris turn into a sparkling jewel at night as countless lights illuminate the city of romance. Dr. Dwayne L. Merry, a professor of anthropology and archaeology, has conducted research and excavations around the world and written several books on his travels around the world. 2005 - Color.
