Amazing to see yourself in the NEXT Dimension
This is the first 3D product that I've seen that really lives up to the hype, right out of the box. The slide down cover is smooth and gives it a great appeal, and it's just as small as any other point and shoot digital model. I found the most impressive feature to be the playback mode, after you've shot a few pictures or videos. Unlike my 3D TV, I didn't have to sport any bulky 3D Glasses - with the W3, the screen actually lays the images out so they appear 3D to the naked eye! You need to view the screen directly to get the full effect, but it's amazing. The LCD screen is bright and actually large enough to let you see all the details that make 3D great. I shot a friend looking at the camera, waving a pen toward the lens, at about 7 feet away. Much like the movies, the pen looks like it's coming out of the screen to poke you. As for still images, you need a little distance between the camera and the subject, as really close shots look distorted. Anything over about 6 feet looks great. The more objects that are in the immediate field of the shot, the more crazy dimension you get. I shot my wife standing in front of a rocky waterfall, and it's so detailed that drops of splashing water literally look suspended in mid air! Outdoor shots seem to be the perfect setting for 3D stills, as indoors there isn't as much depth to contrast from. Don't get me wrong, indoor shots are still very impressive, I simply encourage you to take this camera outdoors to unleash it's full potential. No more bland 2D cameras for me, the Fuji W3 is far and away the most exciting partner in photography I could have ever hoped for!
