This iteration of the Gundam series takes place during Future Century 60, the year of the "Gundam Fight" tournament. Held on Earth, the tournament features one Gundam from each competing country fighting in a series of battles to win prestige and a certain amount of power for the home country. In these episodes, Domon must face off against his former teacher, Master Asia. Later, Domon and the rest of the Shuffle Alliance fly into space to protect the Earth from the Ultimate Gundam. This collection contains almost 10 hours of episodes, and features music by Kouhei Tanaka.
Hated by many and loved by many more, G-Gundam demonstrated how the Gundam concept is not limited to that of a serious war story. It took us in a bold new direction that resulted in a show that is extremely fun to watch. Ironically to craft the concept and style of this series the producers went back to the roots of the modern mecha anime, the Super Robot, a genre that the original Gundam series helped end when it first debuted. This made for a hybrid product that has the overall characteristics and style of the classic super robot shows of the 70's as well as the seriousness and realism that is more characteristic of Gundam and other modern mecha shows.
