Product Overview

Jennifer Love Hewitt, Brandy, Freddie Prinze, Jr., and Mekhi Phifer star in the screamer sequel to the blood-chilling box office hit, I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Remember Ben Willis? He's the fisherman who killed the boy who was driving the car when it went off the road in the fatal accident that killed his daughter Sara...he's the man in the slicker with a hook in his hand ready to exact bloody justice...well, he's back.

It's hard to forget a man who refuses to die.

Review I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (which, to be accurate, should be called I Still Know What You Did Two Summers Ago) is a box office-driven sequel that re-hashes the already-tired approach and storyline of its predecessor, I Know What You Did Last Summer. Both films take standard horror cliches and plot elements, throw them together with little evidence of style or intelligence, and hope people will pay money to see the cinematic refuse that results. If there's a blessing, it's that the sequel isn't appreciably worse than the original - but that's slim praise considering how bad the first one was...Things go pretty much as expected. Everyone whom you anticipate getting filleted eventually comes up on the wrong side of the Fisherman's hook. There are no genuine scares (just lame attempts at them) and little suspense - everything is humdrum and routine, and I almost dozed off more than once...I am at a loss to explain this series' popularity. Is it the young stars and copious gore? It certainly isn't the characters or the plot. Then again, I could never understand the appeal of Friday the 13th, and that spawned seven sequels (with an eighth yet to come). Actually, it appears that the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise could be on its way to becoming the Friday the 13th of the '90s. Now that's a truly terrifying thought.

Review I Know What You Did Last Summer differentiated itself from the flood of post-Scream slasher films by staying relatively straightforward. It might not have been as hip or as clever as Scream, but it served as a solid reminder of how effective a well-crafted, unironic horror film can be. Unfortunately, its hastily made sequel serves largely as a reminder of how disappointingly routine most slasher sequels usually are. Jennifer Love Hewitt's plucky heroine returns for I Still Know, and, having survived the bloodshed of the first film, goes to Jamaica with a slew of telegenic, multicultural friends...The boyfriend is played once again by Freddie Prinze Jr., who this time has the good fortune to spend a good portion of the film in a coma. Before the youngsters have an opportunity to enjoy their vacation, however, the mangled bodies of poorly developed secondary characters start turning up with alarming frequency, among them an unbilled, dreadlocked Jack Black, who is theoretically supposed to serve as comic relief. But the only laughter I Still Know What You Did Last Summer is likely to inspire is the derisive kind, as director Danny Cannon (Judge Dredd) and writer Trey Callaway break a sweat putting their callow young cast through one ridiculously convoluted scene after another. There's gore aplenty here, but precious little suspense or terror.
