Performance

Only a fool would think that George Strait would fail to deliver another knock-it-out-of-the-park album. Throughout this 15-song album, Strait proves once again why he continually sets himself apart from the country music pack. His song selection and delivery are as strong, if not stronger, than ever. "It Just Comes Natural" has more slow and mid-tempo songs than upbeat tunes, but it's hard to imagine fans of traditional country will be disappointed with this CD. From the first song, "Give It Away," a multi-week number one smash, Strait delivers what his fans love -- a catchy lyric and an unbeatable delivery. "She Told Me So" chronicles a naive cowboy clinging to and defending a lover that's left him. In the same vein as his 80s hit, "Ocean Front Property," Strait sings "And there's roses blooming in the Arctic Circle, icebergs in the Gulf of Mexico ... I'd believe it if she told me so." Track #3 is the sensitive "That's My Kind of Woman," a song co-written by one of Strait's tried and true hitmakers, Dean Dillon. This song fits Strait like an old sweater -- nothing could feel more comfortable. And for Strait trivia buffs, this song marks the second time in as many albums that Strait mentions the old TV series, Lonesome Dove. "Wrapped" is a potential single with its mid-tempo beat, smooth delivery, and infectious chorus. The title track is another midtempo winner. This Marv Green and Jim Collins' tune is, well, a natural Strait gem. "It Just Comes Natural" is perhaps the best song -- instrumentally -- on the entire album. Among the 10 remaining tunes, high points include "He Must've Really Hurt You Bad"; "Why Can't I Leave Her Alone"; "A Better Rain"; and "What Say." Artists strive to grow and reach new levels with each album, but no one's done that for 29 albums like Strait has. "Natural" is simply Strait attaining the latest apex in his unparalleled career. "It Just Comes Natural" might as well be synonymous with country and Strait. Any music collection will be better by adding this album to it.
