Fun Reading

by Bill Joanis on 3/23/2008

A few months ago I borrowed a coy of this book from our local law library; I couldn't put it down. So today I am ordering a copy so I can re-read it whenever I want. Each chapter of the book tells a story about an event or person in history. This book is for casual leisure reading. If one of the topics grabs your attention you may want to find a more serious treatment elsewhere, but you will not have wasted your time by reading any of the chapters. This book that would be perfect to read while traveling. The chapters are short enough to read a whole story as one waits for a plane and the book is interesting enough to maintain one's attention during a long flight. The chapters are well written and jam a lot of information into a few pages. I didn't expect a book published by the Litigation Section of the ABA to be this breezy of a read. Simply put, I loved this book.

Product Overview

From the divine right of Charles I to the civil rights struggle of Rosa Parks, 25 non-fiction stories provide a panorama of people whose actions helped form our legal system and our world. Constitution makers, Civil War enemies, Irish rebels, World War II Nazis, murder and passion, art and prejudice appear in a page-turner that reads like a mystery novel. Did Dr. Samuel Mudd participate in the Lincoln assassination? Was Captain Charles McVay III responsible for the sinking of the USS Indianapolis? Did Levi Weeks kill pretty Elma Sands? Read about unknown founder James Wilson and Hitler's lawyer, Hans Frank. Discover the back stories of landmark cases and enjoy the cross examination and trial skills of lawyers in top form.
