The Little Princess is a classic. One of my favorites. The best part is the dream sequence. It originally was in black and white but the dream was the only part that was in color. Good movie

Product Overview

This heart-tugging film is an adaptation of a classic children's novel and stage play by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Adorable Sara Crewe (Shirley Temple) is treated like a little princess at her boarding school. But when reports of her father's death in the Boer War surface, she is forced into servitude towards the other girls. The unflappable youngster steps up to the challenge of her new lot in life, and ultimately wins over the hearts of wealthy neighbors - and even Queen Victoria herself - as she refuses to give up hope that her father will one day return after all.

Reviews

Review "The Little Princess" was Shirley Temple's first technicolor production, and was her last successful film as a child actress. It is probably her best film, edging "Wee Willie Winkie" for the honor. The enduring quality of the story is evident by a recent version, "A Little Princess" from 1995, which is even better than this 1939 version...Even Temple's best films are not taken seriously today, probably because their target audience was little girls (of all ages), rather than men. Still, The Little Princess is better than most if not all of the James Bond films, demonstrating that warmth and charm compete well with dramatic tension and action.

Review The Little Princess is the most frequently televised of all the Shirley Temple vehicles made by 20th Century Fox between 1934 and 1940 and with good reason. Someone forgot to renew the film's 1939 copyright and it lapsed into the public domain in 1967. It is among the best of Temple's childhood movies with a strong storyline, great supporting cast & the obligatory dream sequence which ensured that the Ideal Toy Corporation would market yet another Shirley doll in lavish princess costume.
