Product Overview

Alt-Asian maverick Kim Ki-Duk (The Isle, Bad Guy, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring) takes a scalpel to modern culture's obsession with youthful beauty and unattainable physical perfection. After two years together, Seh-hee thinks Ji-woo no longer finds her attractive and disappears. Reappearing six months later with a new name and surgically altered face, she competes against her own memory, wooing her lover again in a romantic version of Face/Off. But when she confesses her deception, their rediscovered romance is forced to walk a tightrope of tragedy.

Review "You're scary. You're really scary," Ji-woo (Ha Jeong-woo) tells the woman sitting across the cafŽ table from him wearing a photograph of his lost lover Seh-hee (Park Ji-yeon) as a mask. In Time, the latest by idiosyncratic South Korean filmmaker Kim Ki-Duk (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring, 3-Iron) Ji-woo is right to be afraid. The lady in question is not just crazy, she is over-the-top mad as a hatter in a darkly funny tale that melds elements of Fatal Attraction, Nip/Tuck, and that hoary soap opera cliche, the surgical makeover so complete that even a mother wouldn't recognize her own child. While the film is framed as a melodrama, it also slyly satirizes the idea that a new look can transform one's entire life, an obsession that sends so many scurrying to the plastic surgeon's office...There is a circular motion to the film that suggests a never-ending chain of domestic trauma and surgeries that he achieves through pushing the story further, but that is hardly necessarily. It is a little bit of a drag on an otherwise exuberant, if cautionary, tale of love and plastic surgery.
