Overall Satisfaction
Ease of Use

It's really a great camera for an entry level DSLR purchase. The guide feature helped me get started with some basic photography tips and tricks and that allowed me to do some of things I wanted to do without getting frustrated. That success lead me to learn more on my own and now I rarely use the feature but it was great to have in the beginning. My only real complaint is that as I started looking at what other folks were doing with photos I noticed people were using some software called HDR which uses auto bracketing (which takes multiple shots of the same photo with diff levels of exposure to make a really cool looking picture). The D3100 doesn't offer auto-bracketing but you could get it in higher levels of Nikon DSLR's if this is critical to you. The only other complaint is that the camera doesn't offer a remote shutter switch and if you want a shutter switch it will be corded (shutter switch is helpful to use to reduce vibration in long shutter speed shots -- flowing water motion capture scenery type shots). However those two issues are very minor compared to my overall satisfaction with this camera. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

The quality of the picture is excellent. The lens are very easy to change and really make a difference when it comes to the distance you are trying to photograph. I have never had a camera with changing lens and I would highly recommend this one. This model of camera was given as gifts from Oprah on her Favorite Things episode. So I decided to search for one (if Oprah says it is easy to use then it has to be). I am thrilled with my purchase! I took my camera on a trip to Hawaii with my family and now I have other family members who would like this same model of camera because of how easy it is to use and because of how clear and beautiful the pictures are.

Great Camera

by Cameta Camera customer on 8/30/2011

My first digital camera I used film SLRs years ago and got proficient. I like letting the camera focus while I pay attention to framing a good shot. I haven't found the included software useful.
