I stumbled onto Dawes a little over a year ago and they've quickly become one of my favorite bands. Taylor Goldsmith is one of the greatest lyricists of this generation, reminiscent of Jackson Browne. 'North Hills' is full of rich harmonies set to a somewhat sparse musical background that really allows for the focus to remain on the depth of the lyrical content. Some have complained that this album is too simple and musically monotonous, but in my experience the quality of the songs supersedes those concerns. 'North Hills' is a fantastic first offering from Dawes and paves the way for their incredible follow-up album 'Nothing is Wrong', which I would give 8 out of 5 stars if that were possible.
