My Late 08 Aluminum MacBook is blazing fast now! Startup takes less than half the time it took with the original hard drive. Programs launch crazy fast. iTunes cover flow actually "flows." iPhoto doesn't slow down. Time Machine animations actually work. Spotlight is fast like Google Instant Search, now. Instructions: (1) Remove original HD. (2) Remove mounting screws (4 total) on original HD (with T6 torx screwdriver). (3) Attach mounting screws to SSD and install. (4) Close up your MacBook. (5) Turn on your MacBook and insert Mac OS X Install DVD and hold "c" key. Apple logo will come up. (If you get a blinking folder with a "?," instead, leave DVD in SuperDrive and press the power button to turn off. Press the power button again and hold the "c" key.) (6) Select language. When you arrive at the install screen, go to "Disk Utility" in the "Utilities" menu on the menu bar. (7) Click on the SSD and select "Erase" tab. Select "Mac OS X Extended (Journaled)" and erase. (I named the SSD "Macintosh HD," the default name.) (8) Exit "Disk Utility" and install Mac OS X. You can do a clean install or restore from a Time Machine backup. If you want to speed up your old computer or even your new computer, I definitely recommend using this drive. This is one of the fastest drives you can buy. You won't regret it. Remember: RAM basically determines how many programs you can run at once. Your hard drive determines how fast the OS starts, how fast programs start, and how fast programs with functions relying on the hard drive (i.e. iTunes), run.
