Product Overview

From Booklist The world of college preparation has rumbled with seismic shifts in the last few years. The SAT has been completely revamped with a new writing component, college admissions counselors are rethinking how to weight standardized test scores against applicants' other qualifications, and the application process is moving entirely to the Internet. Owning the New SAT is practical as well as very irreverent. Published by the same company that released the cheeky DVD Quack! SAT Success! (2004), this guide devotes a chapter to each area of the test. The strategies are solid and insightful, and the language in the examples is rowdy and energetic. The humor is sometimes off-color. For instance, the example of a poorly written essay on The Great Gatsby includes the phrase "Daisy was a ho"; and multiple-choice questions mention "a bitchin' kegger" and "rearless chaps." This isn't for every student, but older teens who aren't put off by the language may welcome the authors' nontraditional approach, which they can combine with a more traditional test-prep manual that offers practice tests and examples of test questions.
