Tony Trischka's banjo book
This banjo book is a great resource if you're trying to learn banjo on your own or even when taking weekly lessons. It's important to read the explanations between sections as that's where the instructions at how to best finger difficult passages is located. The CD is very helpful in going thru the exercises which are taken at slower speeds, however, when a song is included as part of a given exercise, it's played entirely too fast for the beginning student. It would have been much better to play it slower, particularly in the first 75 pages or so of lesson content...at least until the beginning student has half a chance of keeping up with the CD example. It's nice to show off one's speed ability on stage, but in a training book, including song examples at a slower speed would have been significantly more beneficial to the beginning banjo player.
