Great, easy-to-understand book, but needs an edite

by William J. Hagerty on 9/1/2008

In September 2007, I wrote this letter to the author: Dear Mr. DeCarlo, I just finished reading subject book that you authored. I think the book is great. It has all the right material written with the right amount of detail to be usable and it’s clearly written. I believe you should remove the word “Idiot’s” from the title. It deserves a higher status. Having read the book from cover to cover including the appendices and the index because of my great interest in it, I did log my comments in the attached enclosure. I hope this helps. You will probably have a second edition for such a quality book so apropos to the times. Comment Log on preliminary copy of “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Lean Six Sigma” obtained with understanding that it contained known errors. (sorry the tabulations did not copy) Page Location Comment 6 Toyota is actually larger (in sales) than GM 36 2nd line Should be lower case sigma (s) vice upper case (å). 38 Line 10 “ Line 14 “ Line 16 Should be sum of squares of the differences vice sum of the differences 39 1st graph Note should have lower case sigma (s) vice upper case (å). 3rd diagram Note should state “six standard deviations” vice “three…” 163 Chart note Last line in note should be “downrigger” vice “outrigger” to be consistent with term in chart 178 6th line Should be ”Gemba” vice “Genba” 190 9th line Should put a footnote for the word “accept” *Technically correct to state that there is not enough evidence to reject the alternate hypothesis (innocent until proven guilty) 204 Top of 1st table Should be “Sum of Squares ” vice Sum of “Aquares” 343 Line 25 Should be “Gemba” vice “Genba” 344 Line 7 Should be “parameters compared to standards” (or similar wording) 354 3rd chart “SCORE” has an asterisk, but no footnote to go with it. Perhaps it should point to Page 60 or it could expand SCORE to Select-Clarify-Organize-Run-Evaluate in the footnote. 370 Middle of 2nd column “Minitabs” should be “Minitab” 375 - Should have an entry for SCORE” and reference Page 60 Be encouraged that overall this was a great work. It just took another set of eyes to help make it a little better.
