Product Overview

The first-ever two-disc multi-artist collection of the groundbreaking label's classic 12" cuts, including Queen Latifah's "How Do I Love Thee," Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock," and Planet Patrol's "Play At Your Own Risk."

Pioneering indie imprint Tommy Boy was born in Tom Silverman's NYC apartment in 1981, when the entrepreneurial magazine publisher began releasing the best demos to cross his path. He struck gold with the label's revolutionary debut, Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock." One of the only 12" singles to sell 600,000-plus copies, it laid the foundation of the house that Tommy built. Hip-hop's artistic translation of urban street culture was soon a mass phenomenon, with Tommy Boy stars leading the way. Together they've earned almost 80 gold and platinum certifications, and their groundbreaking grooves are essential pillars of hip-hop.
