This was really Good..
** Spoilers ** The story started a little slow but picked up and became an engaging read. It may have even been too slow for some readers, but I welcomed it. I didn't feel angry at the end like have have been with my most recent reads. The book didn't make me want to cuss, nor did I have to call anyone Stupid. I liked the main female lead, Xylara or rather Lara for short. She was a dedicated healer, smart, had a temper, knew when to stand up for herself, and she was willing to "Take One for the Team", which basically made her a hero in the eyes of her people. I thought that the Firelander warriors were a bit archaic, But, the majority of them seemed pretty fair minded. I liked the main male lead, Keir. At certain points in the book, I wish the author would have told the story from his point of view. I know, some stories have too many point of views but it would have been interesting to get his views and reactions on certain scenes and not just Lara's interpretation of them. My only complaint is that Keir did not get a voice. I had to guess too much at his feelings about Lara. I also felt that Lara and Keir should have talked more. Lara asked more questions of Joden than she did of Keir. She went over 3/4 of the book thinking that she was a Slave waiting on signs and directions from Keir, while he was trying to court her, yet give her time and space. The misunderstandings could have been cleared up sooner, allowing more time for the Romance.
