New Gold Standard of Collected Editions!
This volume is awesome! Letter pages and house ads are included, including a house ad for the precursor for the CCA. It's simply beautiful! Here's my rundown: These volumes are bigger than Archives and Omnibus format books. The art is printed at approximately standard magazine size, with the books dimensions larger than that. The art is big enough to appreciate in all its detail without being too big. Perfect size in my book. The bindings are square and sewn. These books appear to be designed to fit into a slip cover. The art on the dust jacket is repeated on the volume itself. Extras include articles at the front, and interspersed where the back cover of an issue would be. Gemstone house ads for the next three volumes of EC Archives are also placed where some back covers would be. The art is crystal clear. The coloring is spectacular and subtle. If you aren't looking for the modern gradient touches, you don't notice them. It's simply great! My volume has a "new ink" smell. But no smudging on the pages. The paper quality is hard to describe. It is brilliant white, but not overly glossy. And it is fairly heavy. The contents of the book are spectacular as well. Great artists, innovative art and layouts, and nice punchy stories. At only 212 pages, counting the blank pages in the frontspiece, some may find the volume a little thin. I couldn't disagree more. This was worth the wait! It is the gold standard of classic comics reproduction. Better even than Spirit Archives from v. 12 forward. Truly a fantastic product. Any one who fancy's themselves a fan of the medium must buy this line. It's that simple.
