About Baked by Melissa

Baked by Melissa was founded in 2008 in New York City by mom and baker Melissa Ben-Ishay. She always had a passion for baking cupcakes for herself and her friends, and after being fired from a job she wasn’t passionate about, she decided to take a chance at starting her own business. A few random lucky events landed her a tasting with a famous New York City caterer. The caterer loved her cupcakes and she started selling at a pop-up and at events and holiday markets in the city, eventually opening her first retail location, which was a pick-up window in the Soho neighborhood. Today, Baked by Melissa has 14 retail locations and ships nationwide through its website. Melissa Ben-Ishay currently serves as the company’s President and CEO. In October of 2017, she released her first cookbook, Cakes by Melissa. In 2024, she released her second cookbook, Come Hungry: Salads, Meals, and Sweets for People Who Live to Eat.
 
Baked by Melissa cupcakes are made entirely by hand and turn any moment into a celebration. We have beautiful gift boxes for any occasion - birthdays, thank yous, congrats, or sending love when you don’t know what to say. Baked by Melissa ships fast and arrives in 1-2 days nationwide, and you can choose the arrival date, guaranteeing your treats arrive perfectly fresh and right on time. No one skips dessert on our watch, there’s a flavor for everyone. Our bakery is certified Kosher and we also offer incredible gluten-free, vegan, and no-nut flavors, making it easy to treat everyone you love.

 Our menu always includes our eight original cupcake flavors that have been around since day one: cookies and cream, cookie dough, red velvet, mint cookie and chocolate chip pancake, as well as a rotation of seasonal and limited-edition flavors.
