Designers also added an extra 2 mm of stack height compared to the first version of the shoe. Additional energy savings come from the broad midsole and Brooks' uniquely shaped carbon-fiber plate. The plate increases the shoe's propulsive feel and works with the midsole to keep runners in their bodies' preferred motion path. Brooks also carved the midsole into its Rapid Roll shape for effortless transitions.
