Both men worked for U.S. Standard Electrical Works in Racine, Wisconsin where they began to develop a lightweight and universal motor designed specifically for use in home appliances. At that time, electric motors were used only in commercial appliances, so this was an innovation that changed home kitchens drastically and immediately. Hamilton Beach formed and quickly expanded its product line to include food mixers, drink mixers, juice extractors, meat grinders and other household items such as floor polishers and fans.
